Great article. You’ve always been a visionary. Although you wrote this in 2009, this article is still apropos. Even since that time, I see even more of the Black-owned businesses that have closed in our community that were here since the 80s when I moved to LA.

Economic liberation is the key to racial equality. Owning a business helps future generations.

Judy,

I agree that self-publishing is a good way to go. That was how I started out in 1995 with my first two novels, The Ebony Tree, and in 1997, No Pockets in a Shroud, which has been reissued as Hostage of Lies through Urban Books in 2009.

Because I started out as a fiction writer, and I represent only fiction writers as an agent, I wrote this article (actually 4 years ago and just updated it) to encourage more fiction writers to write nonfiction.

Your book was a lot of help for me in writing my different nonfiction ebooks. I learned a lot of strategies from it, which has helped me write faster.I still revisit your book. I also took your teleseminar in about 2005, which was very helpful.

I mentioned some of these sites because I used to write for free online from 1999 until recently. I did this for the advertisement. Since 2009, I’ve written on Demandstudios for pay.

I have a longer list of sites which are beginning to pay. The pay is minimal, but sometimes those short articles can become a book.

Maxine, I know you have read and used the strategies in my “Write your EBook or Other Short Book Fast! I just want to say it’s Ok to publish with your choices above, but I doubt you’ll make more than few hundred dollars at a time.One of my bookcoacching clients told me thisa bout Helium, and I even posted one myself with little success.

I encourage your readers here to self-publish yourself–it is not hard and you control your book, its title and promotion yourself. Authors need to bite the bullet and put a blog or business website. If anyone here wants free information weekly, see my site to join at
